ok friends and lovers, this blog has run its course and it’s time to move on to bigger and better things.

like this blog.

this one right here.

this is my new blog. the one you are looking at right now is old. not new.

here you can find better things. go there. not here. GO.

Got to go visit my sister from another mister over in the EU.

Anyway, I have a big deadline today, ate a strawberry pop tart for breakfast, and I’m kind of in love.

Don’t worry, everything is going to be amazing.

Freelancers Schedule.

This is what I am on right now.

Which means that I usually wake up around eleven in the morning. Neat, yeah? Then I work until about three or four in the morning. I have been freelancing full time for about two months now and I love it, and thus far, I have been in the unique position of being able to afford to love it; after selling my soul to commercial advertising for a year I felt stable enough, at least for the summer. Now that it’s the dead middle of the season, and so many things have changed, my work seems to be looking up.

Last week I was hired by a smaller print shop in Williamsburg to do illustrations for Urban Outfitters t-shirts. It’s a little scary because they will have the rights to whatever they sell of my work, although that’s pretty much the same deal in commercial illustration. However, this time, a percentage of what they make goes directly to me.

So, technically speaking, Urban Outfitters will be paying my rent. Possibly part of my Con-Ed bill, if things really pick up. Maybe I can make back the money I spent there freshman year of college buying flimsy sundresses that fell apart in the Wait Hall washing machines? Only time will tell…

Otherwise, I love my new neighborhood. I swear I will learn a few key phrases in Polish. I have much larger space to work and I have to say that space has made everything better. A drafting table I built from scratch has made everything better. Even my vampire schedule has made everything better. Permanent under eye circles, maybe, but some of those pictures above are from the roof at sunrise, after making a 6am deadline for Capital New York.

From this point on, I suppose my little web log will have more photography and sketches and less “formal” work, which was the primary intention anyway. Now that my totally re-vamped website is up and actually getting me real work, I can publicly document this whole crazy freelance thing I’m doing. Unless, of course, I stop making money and my internet gets shut off.

This Sunday is Mother’s Day. This is a picture of my mom at 23, which is the age I turn next week. Incidentally, I was born the day after Mother’s Day in 1987. I’m always late to the party. My mom never is. She still looks this awesome.

This is part of a series I am working on somewhat sporadically and will most likely continue throughout the summer.
